NEW YORK -- Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg are the latest members of baseball's most exclusive club.

Boggs, a five-time American League batting champion with the Boston Red Sox who swatted out 3,010 hits, and Sandberg, a 10-time All-Star second baseman for the Chicago Cubs, were revealed Tuesday to be the only players voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame among 27 candidates on the ballot.

My only question is: does Boggs still believe in Pitt the Elder? ;)

Looks like I'll be heading to Cooperstown for July 29 - Aug 1 to #23 enter the Hall. I'm hoping that Ron Santo will join him as well.

Good.

Now Cubs fans can quit their whining. :D

Sandberg deserves it. Santo? Not so sure. Sorry.

Pete Rose: 24 seasons, 4,256 hits
Wade Boggs: 18 seasons, 3,010 hits
Ryne Sandberg: 16 seasons, 2,386 hits

For comparison sake, if Boggs and Sandberg had continued to hit at the same rate they had for their careers, they would have 4,013 and 3,579 hits respectively over 24 seasons. IF...

/not taking anything away from Boggs and Sandberg
//just sayin'

Goose Gossage deserves to be in. He defined the role of closer long before it was cool to have one, and when saves actually meant something.

And now the big question:
What hat will Boggs wear?

Cobb's late career was marred by a gambling episode that involved Tris Speaker, one of his few friends in baseball. Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis helped conceal the details of the scandal to ensure the two great ballplayers would not tarnish their image nor that of the game.
Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker are both in the Hall.
