BTW, Just saw on ESPN today, Schumacher dropped to No. 2 on the highest paid athletes list in 2004.

With salaries, prize monies and endorsements the top two are: Tiger Woods (80,300,000) and Schumacher (80,000,000).

FWIW, No. 3 was Michael Jordan, No. 4 was Peyton Manning and No. 5 was Shaq.

BERLIN, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher will donate 10 million euros ($13.60 million) to help the victims of the South Asian tsunami, his manager Willi Weber said on Tuesday.

The donation from Schumacher was announced by Weber on a German television fundraising drive that on Tuesday evening received more than 34 million euros in pledges.

The official death toll from the Asian tsunami on December 26 has climbed to around 150,000, with millions left homeless, hungry and threatened by disease.

Actually I think that is very cool, see my other post...and to think he had to take time off from working in the windtunnel at modena to do that...and of course after that he had to debug the new telemetry software...perhaps that is why you like him so much...if he were really the designer of that car in addition to the driver, then he would be the world's first cool engineer...that must be real impressive to some college student that only writes checks when his parents put money into his checking account... :gomer: ;)

Good to hear about MS's generous donation, but I wasn't surprised to read he made it. He's a smart guy and recognizes the magnitude of the event.

Looking at the Forbes piece it now makes sense.

Payton is ranked 3rd at $42 million, but $34.5 of that is his signing bonus on his latest contract. While huge, that's a one time earning and I expect he'll drop down the list a bit next year.

Here in Jersey Payton just shows up on the occasional DirectTV ad and such. We just hope Eli is half the player his brother/daddy is. The last few weeks have been promising :)

how does that make you feel about the remainder of the more regular news items we are expected to digest each and every day ? My experience over the years with stories where I was inside far enough to know the real facts would indicate that the mainstream news media gets 30% of it's facts wrong on average, and it's been this way forever. The problem is that none of us know which 30% is bogus. That's why multiple information sources are always important. Between Reuters, AP, UPI and BBC one can triangulate their way to what actually happened on the important stories, and that also turns up the huge amount of information the network news shows don't ever report at all because they are too busy sensationalizing over the hot story de jour.

Of course that doesn't even address the rise of the current "op ed masquerading as news" fad in which you can't count on any part of it being accurate, or talk radio where the sole purpose seems to be to obfuscate and skew information (knowingly lie) in order to pander to a particular audience. :thumdown:

:thumbup: to oddlycalm...that is one of my pet peeves with the media lately...one thing I know, we don't have the complete story most of the time, despite the internet and multiple cable channels and all that. The days of a courageous press seem to be gone. We've got several channels of innocuous news that has become the standard, and a few crackpots like Palast running around...
