Well after over 6months of painting and glueing I have finally completed my first decent model (plastic kit set)

Aaron...looks great. As a final step, you should spray any parts that aren't supposed to be glossy with a matte finish clear spray. A good example is the prop....a matte spray will not only make the decal edges/glossiness disappear, but it will help them last a lot longer as well.

Any parts that ARE supposed to be glossy can be hit with a thin coat of clear gloss.

When using clears there's a fine line between too little and too much. Too little gives it a "stippled" texture. Too much either causes runs or yellows the finish. Tip: Don't practice on your just-finished model!

What are the missles on it?

The actual corsairs had 8 - 5" rockets attached to it, but the actual rocket's ordinance on the nose was larger than the shaft of the rocket.

The model makes it look like sidewinders on the wings.

The Corsair also was able to hold 2 - 1,000 pd bombs, making it a great ground attack aircraft.

not sure about the missiles they just came in the box!!

No airbrush here (can't afford it) most of the painting is done by brush, except the prop and all the blue (that stuff came out of a can of spray paint :D )

Great job considering the limitations of brushes and spray cans. You can still get the matte and gloss clears in spray can.

Nice job! As far as painting model bodies goes, you can go the body shop supply store with any automotive paint code and get an aerosol can of gloss enamel for about $12. The finish is INCREDIBLE.

Problem with getting kits of these is that you either get it in 1:144 scale with the usual questionable quality of the kit or go up to a mammoth 1:72 scale and spend a lot of dough. Not to mention finding space for it when you are done.

Railbird, did you know your two favs had a "mock" combat in 1943?

It was Dick Bong in the P-38 Lightning against Neel Kearby in the P-47 Jug in New Guinea in I believe August. Seems they had a friendly argument about which plane was better.

The observers on the ground gave the edge to Bong in the Lightning.

I'll find a link on it, but it's all documented in several books among them "America's Ace of Aces" by Carl Bong (Dick's brother).
