2.1-mile temporary road course. Like Monterey or Montreal.

Edit: I have the picture stolen from AR1, but its not hosted anywhere. I'll try and find a place to put it or find it elsewhere.

Well, try this:

Please Try Again.

Looks like this d3 motorsport is responsible for a lot of the Champ Car tracks including Korea, San Jose, and one in Argentina. http://www.d3motorsport.com/projects/projects.html

Images show up as broken for me. Probably because I'm not registered.

I see a DENVER-like form to this thing...but still .4 too short. Oh, well, not just a bunch of 90s, but still a temp circuit, I believe, not a road course. Maybe a Cosworth-Hyundai in ChampCar's future!

And speaking of race circuits...remember when Mayor Daly (hisself) had his boys rip big "X's across the runway at Meigs Field in Chicago, dashing our hopes for a big Lakefront Chicago Grand Prix"? Rumor now has Cleveland's mayor thinking along those same lines. I guess a big casino will pump more cash into the local economy, year 'round as opposed to a one weekend event. Hard to fault their thinking. Lakefront "park" my ass!

Assuming it's going clockwise, it looks pretty much like a one turn track at the end of that long straightaway, and you know that's no good because the real fans at ccf said they don't like one turn tracks. :gomer:

Let's hope Hyundai has absolutely nothing to do with Champ Car. Their WRC record speaks for itself.

Where did you hear that?

Nismo is just trying to drop one of his usual stink bombs in an unrealated thread Sean.

Not that the Cleveland topic doesn't deserve it's own thread, that old landfill has had developers chompin at the bit waiting for a while.

Back on topic, the Korea course looks less than racey, but so does Denver and it produced a pretty good race last year.

True. For the past five or six years we've read and heard things about development at Burke. It will probably happen, but right now it's really just rumor mongering.

Apologies for this not being related to the Korea course, but Meigs was never seriously part of our hopes for the Grand Prix of Chicago. Even before the X's, which I remember all too well, that airport wasn't very accessible for a race or a race crowd. Maybe for Auto-X, but not Champ Cars and their fans. Only a 2-lane driveway in and out of there. And the course would probably have been shorter than Chip's paperclip over in Cicero :gomer: . We need a course that incorporates Lake Shore Drive, fairly near the former airfield, around the ""Museum Campus", but I'm not holding my breath.

As far as the politics behind what is now supposed to be referred to by its more antiquated name, "Northerly Island", I hope King Daley II resists the economic temptation to allow casinos or condos at the former Meigs site.

Back to Korea. :)

Geez, 'bird, what are you afraid of? Just passing along info I read/hear, and I notice how closely people stick to the topic here. :D Glad you are around to straighten things out for everyone, though. (but, it WOULD stink, wouldn't it?)

Daley wants more parks, he wouldn't put a casino on Northerly Island - he considers that blasphemy. If anywhere, he'd put a casino on block 37, a little further north near what is now Cabrini Green when the final demolitions complete later this year, or on the south side where the neighborhood re-developments are ongoing.

As for a Champ Car race in Chicago, it has been discussed to death in various forums. The conclusion is that the city cannot accomodate a race because no matter where a racecourse is laid, it's not safe for the drivers. Scenic yes, safe no. As for the Soldier Field area you propose, the problem down there is that roping off the racecourse cuts the public from several revenue generating facilities such as the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, Soldier field (if being used), public access to the beaches, Grant Park, and marina, and also ties up access roads to McCormick Place and other connecting roads. Even a wildly successful Champ Car race would not generate as much revenue as those facilities operating on a normal schedule. That part of town has a lot of forks and junctions, tying those up would be a major traffic headache for the entire city, not just the south side where the race would be held. The only feasible location for a racecourse down there would be on the McCormick place grounds themselves, but that's about as visually appealing as an alley and has no sightlines for the crowd.

If a Champ Car race were to be held in Chicago, it would have to be held way up north near Northwestern University in Evanston where the area is scenic and displaces little business or other interests while still having the drawing power and marketability of the city. There's also the Autobahn country club in Joliet which is a new 5 mile road course that's currently undergoing the final touches before opening for racing in the spring. supposedly meets F1 standards, but I'm not entirely sure by the pictures.

Corn fuel shouldn't be hard to come by.

2 courses, 3.531 mi. combo. Several of the JRL guys drove it when visiting during their race weekend at Joliet. Helio in particular was very enthusiastic and had positive comments. Corn jokes aside, this is exactly the kind of track on which champcars and drivers could best demonstrate their capabilities, but that possibility seems very remote given current realities. (Realities that have seen natural road courses dropped from the schedule.) Too bad. Plus, the "owners" aren't much interested in big public events, though I hear $100,000 gets a certain segment of the public in and 10k per year lets you play there.
