There is this old woman
She lives down the road
You can often find her
Kneeling inside of her hole
And I often ask her
Are you looking for the mother lode?
Huh?
No.
No my child, this is not my desire
And then she said

I’m digging for fire [4x]

There is this old man
Who spent so much of his life sleeping
That he is able to keep awake for the rest of his years
He resides
On a beach
In a town
Where I am going to live
And I often ask him
Are you looking for the mother lode?
Huh?
No.
No my child, this is not my desire
And then he said

I’m digging for fire [4x]

Frank Black is about the most clever lyricist of his genre. Not many lovesongs with the Pixies, mostly singin about aliens and sewera and made up superheroes and stuff.

Ank & O'Gorman would do well to give a listen.

Pixies are good stuff. One of Cobains favorites if that means anything.
I love the 90's alternative movement. Some of the best rock music made.

Amazon Link to Phasehifter (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000001E1N/002-0124588-6011238) http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000001E1N.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

One of my favorite bands of the 90's alternative scene, actually one of my favorite bands of all time, is a rather unknown bubble gum power punk band called Redd Kross. Two of their members were in the notable punk band called Black Flag, thus the play on names.

Now, for those not familier with the curious 'bubble gum power punk' genre, it's not for the weak of heart. For me, it is a perfect blend of the different styles I dig. The Beatles meet the Meat Puppets (who are close friends with RK, the Meat Puppets that is.)

Many of the bands in this genre tend to alienate prospective fans. they leaned heavily on the psycodelic designs of the '60's in their clothes and album design while blaring out punkified power pop diddies. Take Redd Kross' ultimate record 'Phaseshifter', some songs you would think are actual Beatle cover songs with a heavy guitar, like 'Lady in the Front Row' and 'Saragon'. While songs like 'After School Special' and 'Monolith' hit like a brick to the jaw. But like any true punk band, they don't care what you think. If you can find it, I highly recommed Redd Kross' 'Phaseshifter' album. One of the best.
Like Redd Kross sez, "If you don't know who Kim Fowley is - you ain't punk rock."

Others in this genre that I highly recommend, but won't go into detail, (now at least ;) ) are,
Teenage Fanclub
The Posies
Imperial Drag
The Tories
Summercamp
Big Star (keepin it real. If you know the theme song for 'That '70's Show, that's a Big Star song)
and of course, the cream of the crop...Jellyfish.

My anal-retentiveness wants to point out that Ron Reyes was never actually in Redd Kross (though he was in Red Cross), that Dez Cadena was only there briefly, and that both were gone by '84ish.

I gotta get that anal retentiveness under control. But I am an idiot, after all.

I know, but some ultra-anal-retentive types I know (as opposed to my regular anal retentiveness) consider them different bands. Personally, I'm content to say Steve McDonald's wife is hot and be done with it ;)

Sailing and shoring
Dancing the beta can-can
Making me foreign
Oh yeah

I want to live in los angeles
Not the one in los angeles
No, not the one in south california
The got one in south patagonia

I want to live in los angeles
Not the one in los angeles
They got a bunch down in moleville
They got a bunch more still

I want to live in los angeles
Not the one is los angeles
They got one in twenty-five two five
Works just like a beehive

I want to live in los angeles
Not the one in los angeles
Counting helicopters on a saturday night
The symphony of the fair light

I hear them saying los angeles
In all the black and white movies
And if you think they star-spangled us
How come we say los angeleez?

I’ll wait in los angeles
I’ll wait in the pouring sun
No way
For not anyone
No way

I met a man
He was a good man
Sailing and shoring
He got a betatron, man
Talking that foreign
Oh yeah

I’ll wait in los angeles
I’ll wait in the pouring sun
No way
For not anyone

The lead singer of the Pixies is Black Francis, who then changed his name to Frank Black, and now goes by Frank Black and the Catholics.
