Tonight, I lost my Mom to pulmonary fibrosis. Many of you knew her from the get togethers here in CBus and many more of you met her at Cleveland during both the race and the town meeting and also from the town meeting here in CBus and the last Mid Ohio Champ Car event. According to her nurse, Mom was defiant to TG till the end. Saturday, many of the residents of her nursing home were watching the IRL race and Mom spoke up loudly, asking them why they were watching that crap? She then made comments that she couldn't believe that any of the former CART drivers were stupid enough to drive those death traps. Today she had a peaceful day attending Mass and then just went to sleep. Mom enjoyed so much knowing all of you and considered you her race family. She had made it known to me that instead of flowers or any tears being shed that if anyone wanted to remember her, to please make a donation to either CARA Charities or to one of her two favorite internet sites, OffCamber. net and Crapwagon.com. Please raise a glass for Mom when Long Beach goes green, I know she'll be watching.

damnit.
Jerry, I really don't know what to say.
She was so thankful to me, and all I had done was bring down a bottle of hungarian pear brandy. I know you explained to me how she loved the stuff but couldn't get it where she was.
I smile now thinking of her, she was so happy with that gift, and I remember you telling me that she wanted to speak to me before she left, and her explaining to me about how much that bottle of brandy really meant to her.
Again, my deepest sympathies and prayers for you and your family.
Steve

Thankyou, everyone for your kind words. This has been difficult, but I know Mom isn't hurting anymore. In todays CBus Dispatch, the obit listed her as a lifelong Champ Car Fan, which in many ways is true. My Uncle Chet Johns, actually tried to qualify for the 500 in the early years and ran races up and down the West Coast. I'm not sure of the years, but he retired when his riding mechanic was killed in an accident at a track in Oregon. My Mom also had a famous Uncle, Morton Downey, who was a Big Band Leader, and even more famous or as some would say infamous Cousin, Morton Downey Jr. My Mom, in her younger years was a champion roller skater and performed as a singer on the radio in Portland, Oregon, I believe at KOIN radio. Her Mom and Dad owned a restaurant in Portland that closed during the depression. Forgive me for rambling but I thought that some of you would be interested to know more about my Mom's life. Thankyou again for your kindness, she'll be remembered today from 4-6 at Schoedingers on Cleveland Avenue in CBus.

Wow Jerry, I just saw this thread. I'm very sorry for your loss and I think your mom is indeed more comfortable now. She was a very nice lady and my hat goes off to you for including her in the get-togethers. I hope all is well and the days get brighter soon.

Doc, I've been lucky and have yet to experience anything nearly this tragic. So I can only imagine what you're going through.
Good thoughs for you and your family.
