Can you say 99.7% BETTER?..looking, at least. Hard to tell without a map, but photos on AR1 show locations SO much better than the first proposal, I'm beginning to sense a bait-and-switch took place. Sure, it's not official, but if San Jose wants to show off to the world THIS is how they should do it. Wide boulavards, rows of palm trees, tall new glass structures...I mean, that first draft was ghetto by comparison. I have gone from disgust at the first plan to wild optimism with this one. PLEASE make it longer and faster, ChampCar wants to look good TOO!

Anything has to be better than the left by the welding shop and the straight by the biker bar.

Come on, SJ -- you're appealing and dealing with Champcar fans &etc., not a bunch a gomers. :gomer:

No map yet, but I bet one of you geniuses could make one from all those photos! :)

Gee, now the transportation guy wants his board to reject the new plan because it disrupts light rail and bus transportation. Seems the city council isn't too worried, they'll just reject his proposal. Use the buses to take the people around the track to the other side! :shakehead I'm guessing the council figures a 3 day inconvenience to the bus people will be outweighed by the millions of dollars the race can bring to the city wallet! (will CC have the tracks paved over? Removed/replaced? Left alone? Any precedent here? I don't recall any.)

Just saw a track map. Looks like a watering can with a straight-up spout, and a triangle tip. Strangest thing I ever saw. And all of 1.5 miles. Crap!

At least it's more than 1.4. That hairpin reminds me of Columbus' IMSA pit lane

It's Avus on steroids.

$10 says the field STOPS at one point or another in that hairpin.

I like the layout better than the HP route. I've seen aerials of the route - it will be hard to fit in grandstands.

That map has the race going in the opposite direction as this one which was at the press conference.

If Almanden is four lanes wide each way it might not be bad. It's an improvement in any case.

Yeah, I guess the Mercury messed up.

You know, I think we have singleton to thank for this.
He was talking way back on the fan 590 about the montreal hairpin and one for his new race in san jose too.
That is why when they announced the first track, I didn't know where the bloody hairpin was.

Damn, I was looking forward to the tollbooth chicane.

Yeah, that original race direction looks like it had the cars screaming right toward a pit wall as they entered that chicane. Bad move. Anyone else remember being as uncomfortable as I was with a similar setup at Cleveland? Thankfully they decided to use cones! Good move.
