View Full Version : Effing Firebird....
Just updated Mozilla's Firebird yesterday. Crashed on me soon afterwards and now all my bookmarks are gone. Can't find 'em anywhere. Anyone ever have this happen to them. Also would anyone know where Mozilla stores the bookmarks? They gotta be somewhere.

Done. I can't see why they don't have a bookmarks.html file like IE does. I have hunted all through the Mozilla folders and I can't find anything.

Firefox or Thunderbird? Firefox stores bookmarks in a single bookmarks.html file ala the NS browser (as opposed to individual files for IE). Look in your Windoze\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ folder for the default (or your user name) profile folder for the bookmarks.html file. You can also try using the Import function under Manage Bookmarks in the browser.
I've updated FF to 1.0.2 on several computers @ home and work w/o issue.

Look in your Windoze\Application Data

Do a file search for 'bookmarks.html. Differentiate from the IE file by the path. Let the computer work for you. ;)
 Got it. I would have hated to lose all of those free porn sites.

Prolly diff'rent install locations for XP/Win2K vs. Windoze 98. Your profile info will be under the Douments and Settings folder from the root.

Man, if this isn't the thread to make me feel better...
Just left the world of IE and have moved on to Firefox. Are there any major differences I need to know about? Cosmetic differences I know. Any serious flaws? I've been reading up and the security upgrade I know of. But what else? Thanks.

Yep, I imagine the install just says "put it in the standard place for user application data" and that changed because of Windows.

I just downloaded Firefox yesterday. I was using the new Netscape 8.0 and liked it alot, but it was very crash prone, so I gave up on it. Someone told me Firefox was basically a simpler version of it so I decided to give it a shot.

NS 8.0 is beta, SOG. Should be a final release later next month. The underpinnings are basically the FF/Mozilla codebase, so it should far more stable and secure once they get the kinks out.
The troubling thing about FF's future is that the head cheese for FF dev took a position w/GOOG (good for him). He'll be allowed to work on FF, but it won't be his primary mission in life. :(

The only issues you'll run into with FF are rendering issues on some sites that aren't quite W3C compliant, or 'optimized' for IE. Altho I'm seeing fewer and fewer of those now that FF is reaching a critical mass. Much less than I saw during NS 7.0 development and beta. The NS (now Mozilla) gang spent endless hours evangelising to get sites to clean up their code, so y'all can thank them.

I just lost all my FF bookmarks too. I found the bookmarks.html file, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I can't find any reference to my previous bookmarks.

Hate IE, tried Mozilla...
I love Crazy Browser (http://www.crazybrowser.com/)
Somewhere along the line the install directory for application files changed. I'm not sure if that's a Windows thing or a Firefox problem. I usually blame problems on Windows because I've found that it's a safe bet. :p
Do a search for bookmarks.html. Open Firefox and select Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks. In the window that opens select File->Import. Select "From File". Select the bookmarks.html file. Etc.

Are you sure that they are not under and "Imported Bookmarks" heading now?
