I think Blake was trying to ask him if he wanted a shot at NASCAR, or half expecting that t0 be the answer to his 'any unfinished business or new things you want to do?' question.

Dave was actually surprisingly against the IRL going road racing. Remember, most people who have even an ounce of integrity and backed the original Vision (queue angelic choir) are not going to proclaim what a great idea it is.

There already is an open wheel formula road racing series in America in Champ Car and Champ Car does it better.
