Slowly, slowly, slowly going through the old photos and scanning them in...
Anyway, knowing there are a few other vintage junkies out there, I thought I'd share.

(edit - yeah, I know it's not the real Memphis Belle. This was the one that they used in the movie, though)

(double edit... You have to use the "full size" option to see a decent quality image. Not a big deal, I just wish you didn't have to ask for it every time... Anyway...)

I thought the one in the movie didn't have a chin turret. Just two sticking out either side for the navigator and bombardier.

I don't know, one of the crewmen said that it was one of a couple that they used in the film... But I knew I should put a disclaimer on there. Some of you guys really know your stuff, so I knew I'd get hammered if I tried to pass it off as the real thing.

Not sure about the movie, but the original Memphis Belle was an F version without the chin turret. The chin turrent was on the G version. Wonder how many of each model are still flying. I don't think I've seen anything but Gs in the air.

Here's a link for you, boss.

It appears that there are no E or F models currently flyable, but one is under restoration. Warbird Alley currently lists 13 B-17Gs still flyable..I saw one fly out of here after the airshow last weekend. I think it was the "G" from the museum at Palm Springs, as she was headed East when I saw her.
