That would be one way to skin the cat.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the Long Beach renewal is the most important thing for Champ car since the bankuptcy hearing.
One thing that might support the notion of a buyout - Dover has generally been getting out of the street racing business. Dover is a public company and even a profitable open wheel event like LB may be a drag on their financials when they look at ROI. Add to that the fact that they may see the renewal/switch choice as a no-win situation and it might just add up.
Of course the lemmings are sure that Toyota is going to push this even their way. Maybe, maybe not. Why would Toyota drop this event into Honda's lap if there's any chance that they may leave lemmingland in another year?

The quote I got from an IRL official was "Kalkhoven bought Long Beach".
The rest is pure assumpton on my part.

Kinda like Fonda bought St. Pete. I wish we could've kept that one.
But I digress, if true, this is great news. Thanks KK!
So in football terms the IRL would seem to be facing a running back with fresh legs. :D

I think it's a matter of deciding what you want vs. what you need and then considering whether it's worth the price.

Railbird ... Keep going to that Bar !!! :)
If this proves true ... Kevin has every intention of protecting his investment in CCWS .... It's only logical after all
He is truly Amazing anyway!!!

Kalkoven is the man. If this is true- it's extremely refreshing after years of selfishness and shortsightedness by former CART team owners like Penske and his ilk. He understands what they did not: protect the investment and reinvest in it and you can be successful.

Who says boozin' doesn't pay. ;)
If true, this would certainly take the wind out of the sails of the recently street race giddy earl gang and pretty much deny the only other street race any of them really want.
Here's hoping.

First line could mean lots of things. Depending upon the state of inebriation of the person talking.
Could simply be that KK threw enough money at Michaelian (sp?) that LB is a cinch for ChampCar from 2006 on.
The preferred interpretation is yours, of course. Let's get Dover Motorsports under control once and for all.

Good news 'Bird. I hope he was in the know.
We really can not afford to loose Long Beach.

I agree with Trauma. I just think a lot of people in the I*L are trying to start up some *****.
FWIW, AR1 just put this rumor in the dumpster..........whatcha boys think??
'bird's word is far better than Miss Cleo's. "Kalkhoven bought Long Beach" just means, "He used his financial resources to make sure his series races there as long as he wants it to."
My guess is that he made Long Beach an offer they couldn't refuse. He always seems to bring the right kind of currency.

I think he is a moron for running with a story that was poached from a message board without trying to confirm it or at least find some sort of credibility to begin with.
He got gomered last month and now gomered again by Railbird or maybe by the person that told him that birds rumor was false. Basically, you can't put any weight behind his rumors, news or credibility.

Shouldn't that be "Railbird1.com"? I've heard how irritating using initials only can be with some people. :D
On topic... WTG, KK!
RB1.com - $19.95 a year or a beer at trackside. :)
Exactly.
They got the wrong currency. Champ Car will be just fine and will be in Long Beach this year and for years after.
Quit trying to follow that yo-yo yo-yoing on the future status of the race.
No, I think it's more complicated than that. It's a stockholder thing and money counts. I think TG is way more anxious about this than CC because he NEEDS to be, and I don't see our guys just upping bids. A CC LA race has been promised, & LV is there to use as well (remember the casino street race ideas?) and the message to TG and Toyota is to watch out, CC might walk away but they ain't goin' far! I believe Toyota may have a lot to say about what happens especially if they'd like to badge little Cosworths in a new TOYOTA Atlantic series? Hell, then they could maintain an open wheel presence at their marquee event and I'll bet Cosworth would build them Indy engines for the ONE other race they might want to try, anyway...outside of NASCAB! (Buying Cosworth looks even bigger, now) This is an important story and one WORTH worrying about.

I think those who own the event will take into account that every venue Tony has poached has gone straight in the dumpster. Whatever deal he might make them, they still want a successful race. I have seen a story that Tiny Tony is trying to buy the event outright. I doubt the city would approve of that, as they want a successful event.
I am not too worried. Ever since the series changed hands, the tide has been running in our favor. I am actually more worried that after Toyota abandons the Hapless IRL for NASCAR, they will pressure the promotors top make LB a NASCAR race.

I would think the track is too narrow to realistically hold it.
Back in the late 80's/ early 90's Mid-Ohio widened the track when they repaved for the very reason to make it Nascar friendly, but nothing ever came of it.
How wide is WG and Sonoma in comparison to LB?

I don't think a taxi is any wider than a Champ Car. They may be narrower. Do they need to be able to drive around in a 4 wide pack all day, or sumthin'?

Its really not a problem for the cars Mike. The problem is the buckets. See, after a few laps, the chicken buckets and the fake mullet caps and such get wadded up off-line, what we folks would call marbles.
Then the street sweeper hits the track, resulting in a red flag. And when you ain't got that close side-by-side-by-side action, the mullets get angrier still, resulting in more beer cans, KFC buckets and small children being tossed onto the track.
A perpetual motion machine for goobers, if you will.

Mike, maybe your right on the size. Somehow I just don't see Winston, er Nextel Cup cars there. Would they bring the Busch cars instead? I just don't worry about it, but stranger things have happened.

I have a solution for the KFC Bucket problem. Chicken On A Stick. You take whatever part of the chicken they make nuggets out of and make a big ol' nugget in the shape of a popsicle. Then you dip it in batter and deep fry it.
Now I am sure you are about to say, "But Mike, what about the sticks? The sweepers will just have to sweep them up instead."
Don't worry, I am way ahead of you. Make the sticks outta chewin' tobacco. After a tasty fried chicken dinner, ya gotta have a good chaw. Ma and the kids too. I even came up with a motto, "The family that chews together, scr.... " On second thought, I shouldn't post that here. I'll let you know if I think of something else.

I have the solution to your problem SeanO. Buy a tube of salve, cause I know that when hair is growing back it can irritate the best of us.
Liberally spread the salve over the affected area, and before you know it, the pain and itching will go away.
I understand it must have been embarassing for you to have that pic from Bristol with the #3 shaved into your back posted for all to see, but follow the directions I laid out above, and the embarrassment (and that sad #3) will soon fade.
You're welcome as always. :saywhat:

FWIW CASCAR race cabs on the streets of Toronto. And they put on a pretty good show too
No way NASCAR would add a date that competes with their ISC events. NASCAR doesn't need Long Beach.

I would find that far more interesting than restrictor plate oval pack racing. The Taxis do not have wings or ground effects, which I think produce no passin' parades on road courses, so they likely do have interesting road races. Plus the drivers are not very good at road racing, so they make lots of mistakes, which equals more excitement. The other reason there are so few passes in CC or F1 is, the drivers know better than to leave the door open, and seldom miss their braking point.

Let's all also remember that this is the Toyota DEALERS sponsored race. May make some difference in the great scheme of things.
