Used to have a ton of respect for him, but never cheered for him. After his comments since leaving CART tho...

Sorry, no. Recent behavior and comments outweigh the past.

No. Never did for that matter, "Little" Al was just the last in a long line of Unser's that I had no use for.

He's always been too indycentric for my taste and he came across as a little sh** when he blocked for his dad at the 500. I admired his driving ability but he seemd to squander it with his personal habits. I think he could redeem himself in the eyes of many motorsports fans if he got in shape, took his head out of tg's ars* and maybe did something like Le Mans.

Not really, but I don't dislike the guy either.

Nope. Add the pathetic comments pre 2000 500 towards Juan, who preceded to lap the overweight fart on the track. He let "what Indy Means to me" ruin what could have been a better twi-lite of his career. Now he comes off as a baffoon. Kinda like AJ.

My opinion has changed over the years from an ambivalent opinion to a strong no. His spiral into white-trash did it for me.

I feel sorry for his kids.

I was a big fan starting with the neoCan-Am years.

Too bad everything went south in the mid 90s.

Now I don't know what to think. :(

Liked him in Vees, liked him in Can Am II, but liked other drivers better during his CART career. Really didn't like seeing him win LB so many times since I had to admit that he was pretty good.

I think his career went down a bit when he joined the Penske team, not becuase of that but because he didn't have to try as hard at first when they were such a powerhouse.

Too bad about him now.

Lost respect for him. I agree with the white trash comments. In his defense, I dont think he was ever a normal kid. Welcome to the IRL Al, you fit right in......

He was always just another Unser to me. Damn good driver in his day but never really a favorite of mine.

The thing that amazes me in his move to an all oval format is that he was never an oval standout even when he was still on top of his game.

Having seen his dad and particularly his uncle out and about through the years the Classy Chassy deal didn't suprise me in the least. I did have to make a visit to that place the day after however.

Purely a fact finding mission...;)

No.

This is a guy that had a lot of natural ability and, because of the family advantage, was well experienced when he arrived in CART. He was talented enough to 'look slow' on a roadcourse while posting fast lap. Unfortunately, Unser The Lesser has serious flaws of character. He was unable to keep his life pulled together, and unwilling to face down the better drivers. People like Mansel and Villeneuve just made him bitter, not faster. Same thing if he didn't have one of the top cars. In the end, he's mostly forgettable. Having seen some brilliant drives on road courses, this is a shame.
