80s music was terrible. I was exposed to the music as i had much older siblings. The music sucked.
Yep, Abba died around early 1981 due to them getting divorced from each other and stuff!
Then you had to put up with the likes of Wham and Boy George! :shakehead
I was born in Spring 1986 so I was fortunate to miss all the crappy 80's pop! :)

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4773/stetienneturnpikehouse1cr.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Now with 25% less techno! Even so, when you see them at a club near Boystown, well, to each his own I guess.
Unlike the previous times I've seen them, Sarah seemed to be going for more of a "skanky" look this time, instead of her usual classic '70s go-go look.
Nice album, though, if you still have the easy-listening pop sensibilities "of a certain age".

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
The debut by Melbourne's Cut Copy is a collection of dream and love-laden tunes pulled together with Dan Whitford's inside-out knowledge of 80's flavored synths and studio trickery. Influences range from house to low-slung, fuzzed up punk garage, and seminal 80's raincoat-wearing Mancunian electro-pop to nouveau disco, often within one song. Impossible to pigeonhole. Pop and dance. Happy sad. Simple yet complicated. Sincere yet cool. Naive but clever.

the hideout block party ruled.
shipping news on friday were a supersolid opener for the weekend and they gave away a show-only single which was pretty sweet. supersystem was next and they are a skip. also checked out girls against boys who were pretty good live (not a huge fan though). did not stick around for ted leo or !!!!!
highlight of the weekend for me was uzeda (from sicily) early saturday. they were mindblowingly good. easily one of the most intense live performances I have ever seen. they are on a short tour with shellac right now and if they are coming to your town, go see this band.
pegboy were predictably fun. tim and andy from silkworm did one song that was something of a tribute for their semi-recently deceased bandmate. the ex (netherlands) were a really great surprise and one of the better shows of the weekend. killdozer was a skip. didjits ruled. negative approach skip. sally timms skip. scratch acid were up next and then it became decision time as the band's played alternate stages. hung out at the back for scratch acid (I didn't need to see Yow's dingdang) and consequently found ourselves upfront for Man... or Astroman??? their rockin' surf sound and hilarious antics were perfect for the saturday night crowd before big black and shellac closed the show.
sunday was kinda miserable and dark and rainy but I still went and checked out monorchid, enon, three mile pilot, seam, brick layer cake (todd trainer rules!), and the black heart procession (wow!). did not stick around for pinback or calexico (seen them many times before). would've liked to see one more heavier band later in the day, like monorchid (without the technical difficulties). seam is kinda emo. I will have to give enon's records a chance as they were kinda interesting live... I was pretty bummed about brainiac's untimely "death" and never really gave the new band much attention.
it was a good couple of days to be a chicagoan and to support a label that has given us so much over the years.
