But the mental impact of trying to balance a steady inflow of messages with getting on with normal work took its toll Don't look now Poidexter, but dealing with a steady inflow of messages is normal work today. Perhaps not for researchers grasping hard for something of significance to study, but for anyone in business modern communications allow you to do business worldwide without leaving home. The people that learn to manage these "work amplifiers" and use them effectively will reap huge benefits, while those that don't will allow be scattered and frustrated wankers, which is pretty much how it's always been for one reason or another.
From where I sit, it allows us to do twice as much with half the number of people. I haven't needed a secretary since 1988, and handle more gross dollar volume than eight people did together in 1985. Since we can deploy our people anywhere and yet all share the same synchronized database, we can cover for each other seamlessly so the customer doesn't experience delays or frustrations.
