One of the benefits of Richard's job is free tuition for himself and immediate family members, so I enrolled and am taking my first class. Yep, I'm 42 and going to college for the first time in my life. My major is Marketing/PR with minor in E-commerce.

I should have done this years ago, but when you work full time, an education you pay for is harder to justify than one that's free.

Way to go grrl!! I just graduated last year at the ripe young age of 46 doing the 3 classes a night and working 40 hours + a week gig. Enjoy!

The one thing I found was I enjoyed college and learning more later in life than when I tried it when I was in my very early 20's. I think It had something to do with being able to focus more on the important things in life.

Marketing eh? Be prepared to get hit on my lots of losers my age for the next 4 years! And yes, almost everyone in that major is as obnoxious as me.

But seriously, good luck. I'll be done with my marketing degree at the end of June, and I think getting through college as well as I have (I'm right on the border of graduating with honors) after barely passing high school (made it through with a 2.0) is the biggest accomplishment of my life so far.

 It took me 8 years of being in the working world before I realized I needed a degree. Went to school nights and weekends for 5 years and got my engieering degree. Best thing I ever did.

Congratulations and good luck.

Wow, we have a lot of back to school people at OC!

I'm hoping to follow y'all; and our oldest is on track to attend in five years, so she might have an extra university career of avoiding mom on campus...

I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the studying. I think 20 years of administrative work atrophied my brain. Well, maybe it was the combination of that and moderating SeanO's posts ... :D :p

Congrats to the others here who are doing the same thing. Right now I'm still working full time, but I may have to consider changing that if I want to graduate before I'm 60 years old.

Yes, keeping me in line does give you a definite head start when it comes to working on tedious, repetitive tasks. :D

Great, you'll do fine. You have the advantage of actually knowing how the world works, and that combined with a formal education makes a strong combination.

Sometimes I wish I would have "experienced the real world" for a few years before I went to college (but not THAT many :D). I would have gone into it with a whole different attitude and perspective.

You go, Grrl... Best of luck to 'ya!
