View Full Version : Indy-By The Numbers
As a testiment to the Vision, I thought I'd post a nice little number that just further testifies to Tony's genius as the Savior of the Indeeyunapolis Five Hunnert.
Number of car/driver combos that went home after qualifying was over:
Last three years of the CART era-35
Past three years of .1RL era-0*
(*Assuming no bumps this year which is pretty safe)
The IRL: Saving Indy since 1994.

Everything about that race is trending down. TV viewers, attendance, ticket prices, quality drivers. The only thing going up is the number of tickets you can buy on race day. Oh, and the cars too.

You might get to add a category this year:
Number of car/driver combos thrown together at the last minute to cruise around at 200 MPH to fill the field to prove to the world that 33 isn't really "just a number" it's a tradition (one of few remaining) that must be maintained.

IMS should have a "Win a Ride at Indy", only the prize is you actually have to race...in the 500 (one day practice optional). You get to keep the car though.

To quote Whiney Andretti "Why would you wanna do that?"

Lets not forget the number of car/driver combinations that will have taken flight this month. And the even sadder statistic of how many drivers seriously injured this month (we're at 2 right now, right?) :shakehead
