CARA CHARITIES TO HOST ‘TRACK WALK WITH

THE DRIVERS’ ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE GRAND PRIX OF CLEVELAND

Racing Fans Get To Raise Money For Needy Causes, Walk Burke Lakefront Race Track

CLEVELAND (June 6, 2005) -- Racing fans will have the opportunity to take a unique experience at this year’s Grand Prix of Cleveland on the Burke Lakefront Airport racing surface.

The tarmac of the airport has always been one of the most interesting and exciting racing facilities with its uniquely wide straightaways and legendary turns. The first turn at the Grand Prix of Cleveland is now one of racing’s most famed corners and has produced some of the wildest action in all of auto racing in North America.

As part of the 24th annual Grand Prix of Cleveland, the fans will gain a “close-up view” of the legendary temporary circuit when CARA Charities presents the “Track Walk with the Drivers” on Saturday evening, June 25.

“Track Walk” participants may enter Gate A at 7:30 p.m. and purchase tickets in the Champions Club Tent. The “Track Walk” will begin at 8:15 p.m. and tickets are $10 per person.

This event will have Champ Car competitors including Alex Tagliani and his wife Bronte as well as drivers from many of the other series competing throughout the weekend on the Burke Lakefront Airport track.

All of the proceeds will go to CARA Charities, one of auto racing’s leading charitable organizations that donates thousands of dollars to needy causes annually.

“It is a great chance for our racing fans to examine the track and see the nuances of the famed Cleveland circuit,” said Rena Shanaman, general manager of the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank. “In addition, drivers competing on the race weekend will be walking the track to get a better view of the straights and turns as they prepare for their competition. The interesting aspect is that the rest of the year that facility is an airport. No one is allowed to walk on the runaways and taxiways except for this CARA Charities event. It is truly a great experience for a race fan. It will give them a new perspective for the event.

Outside of the three days of the Grand Prix of Cleveland, the Burke Lakefront Airport is strictly utilized for aircraft transportation over 360 days of the year.

“Walking a track like Cleveland can give the racing fan a new outlet on how the drivers see the racing surface,” said Mary Lou Bogner, executive director for CARA Charities. “We are always trying to get a new angle for the racing fans to enjoy and I can’t think of a more interesting way for the fans to get the driver’s view that they travel at closer to 200 m.p.h.”

In addition to the Champ Car qualifying on Saturday on the Burke Airport track, races will be held for the Toyota Atlantic Championship, the Trans-Am Championship, SCCA competition and a special drifting car exhibition.
