View Full Version : More San Jose greatness
There have to be compelling reasons for people to watch...it needs something for "regular" people to talk about, or read about, etc.
Champ Car is good at giving the locals someone to cheer for. Canadians for the Canadian races. French speakers for Montreal. Spanish speakers for the Mexican race. Two guys from California for Long Beach and San Jose. An Australian team for the Surfer's crowd. RuSport, based in Colorado, for Denver. A collection of international drivers from Germany, Sweden, England, and Denmark for the international races.
But who is the TV audience supposed to cheer for? Maybe they should call NBC to produce some of those sappy Olympic "Personal Stories" for the drivers.

Agreed, it's not bad at all. Paul Tracy is a pretty big star here, for instance, he probably has a higher profile than CCWS. And people show up for the race in droves.

Ewww... I don't know. They've tried various segments to try introducing the drivers, like the Dangerous Curves thing, but it doesn't seem to help all that much.
Best case would be Tony Stewart in a Champ Car. :D I remember when Flutie came to the CFL, it was big news for years. The league's been missing star power since he left.

how much of this is due to not having the atlantic series covered and brodcast on cbs, nbc and fans not being able to follow drivers thru the progression? It seems if you don't follow the feeder series the younger talent is lost to the occasional fan.
That's how it's being marketed, but why cut prices if you're seeing strong demand?

Because the BOD voted on giving back to the community for the celebration. Twist it anyway you want, laugh about it with your TF buddies, that's what it is., and ticket sales are just fine.

I better be right or I'm looking to you for a paycheck. ;)
And from Denver that's where you can see it best...TV
Rubbish.
Sit in the mile wide turn at Denver and you've got tons of action right in front of you and you can watch the rest of the track on the big screen right in front of you. There was much more action on the track than you saw on TV the year we went.

 Cleveland is another one that is better in person. TV focuses on one, two maybe three cars.

Yep, nothing like giving the fans someone to cheer for on only ONE of the race weekends of the season. And its a wonder why TV ratings suck. :(

Maybe they should ask themselves "which drivers can we sign that will bring the most attention?"
I don't think anyone paid as much attention to ALMS as when Dale Jr did his Corvette stint. Too bad about the Dale-B-Q. But it got a lot of press. :D
Maybe CCWS needs some one-offs by household name drivers. Bring back Jacques and JPM for a one-off, find a weekend when NASCAR isn't running and pay a couple of guys a whack of cash to come race.
CCWS isn't in a position to build household names right now unfortunately.

I agree 100%, and this is what I've been saying for years. At most events, even at the good tracks, the quality of racing has gone down. Drivers have become more unknown, and you can't follow them up the pipeline. Really, it is more of a very expensive private hobby than it is professional motorsport. Thus people lose interest.
Apparently the owners of Champ Car have decided these past few years that the problem is not the product, but rather the people who watch it, so now they are moving the outdated cars to venues that are even worse for racing, thus turning off even more of the current and potential fanbase.
That is where the problem lies, and that is what needs to be fixed if Champ Car is going to have a bright future.
Excellent, the whole deal.
