So they take a slow, winding course and get rid of the two places where the cars aren't braking or turning - Turn 9/10 and Turn 11.
Genius.

turn 9a is much sharper then that map shows, i just watched the NASCAR race from outside that turn, its a 90 degree right then a sharper left. see the arial photo
unless they will change it of course.they took away all the fast sections of that circuit leaving the steep uphill parts. those things will be moving slow
i think that track is the best road course facility in the nation btw.
tunnels underneath and everything

9a looks like it could have some carnage, from that aerial image it reminds me of the festival curves.

They'll be all strung out in single file long before they get to 9a.

thats becuase that part was added for the bikes, not race cars, i seriesly think they need to do some new paving in that area to make it work. :shakehead

We will be able to see if they have changed it next week when they show the ALMS race. The IRL race isn't for 7 weeks so they have time to fix it. Either that or they think a 30 mph corner is a good thing

Actually 8a is what needs changes, cars are flying on that part of the track and lined up directly with seating, they need some serious fencing. They did a good job setting up the track. It will be interesting.
We covered most of the track in Pchall's 1st post.

I haven't decided to go to the race or hit Bristol one last time.

they probably wont need that bleacher anyway. :p
but really, they will be exiting that hairpin at the end of the coursel at low speed and wont make any dangerous speed for a high downforce car by turn 8.

Bleacher!?! We must be politically correct and call them Terraces. ;)
Actually they are going pretty good through turn 6 carousel, turn 7 is just a straight righthander, and by the time they get through 8 to 8a they will be moving pretty good. It's just lined up directly with Turn 9 Terrace (http://www.eventprocess.com/BrokerMaps/InfineonRaceway_all.GIF)

I was just at the NASCAR race at watched it from that exact terrace. i dont think they will get any significant speed comming down to there, and the terrace is a good 20 up and has plenty of run off between it and the track.
besides that i dont think it will be a problem because
1. people wont be sitting there
2. the cars wont have Texas like speeds to get up there. but who knows we are talking about airborn race cars when it comes to the IRL

the you should know the distance and hight that terrace is from the track its considerable.
i feel that its safe and that cars would have to get airborn to hurt anyone.

Tires always concern me more than cars. The two orange "Delineators" you see down the track were used across 8A for the Cup race. Waltrip got the third one. ;) IMHO...They need higher fencing.

i see your point, but that was even further away then i remember. considering that the stands will not be that pact i dont think there is a concern.
i will be at the track monday and check it out

Cool, jump over that fence those people are leaning on and take a better picture! NASCAR photographers love pictures of cars and drivers, but never get the BIG picture where the car is at.
Oh and tape measure the width of 9a while you're at it. We may have more debating to due. ;)

they are showing a different layout on their website.
and you are right brickman, i was on the track and turn 8 is dangerous with just a little fence and then the stands. i think the exit of turn 3-3a on the crest of the hill could easily land a car in the stands if it lifts off

The Infineon site still shows the AMA Superbike circuit to be the IRL course as well. I'd suggest somebody with more html skill than racing knowledge is doing revisions for the IRL website.
The IRL is using the AMA course for their race.
