Last I heard, it would accept several different existing P2 engines, as well as a new in-house engine offered as part of a turn-key package.

The Brit motorsport show that comes on Speed Channel at odd times (5th Gear, 6th Gear, 10 Speed Bike... whatever it's called) showed one a few weeks ago. Sweet lil cars! The club cars tend to have big bore motorcycle engines, right? I just remember that it was really light and wicked quick!

While I was trying to learn a little more about these cars, I came across one that uses Subaru engines. Also a sweet package. Saker-Subarus. It would be great to see them (Subaru) come in as well, but I doubt it.

Sure is a lot of interest in (LM)P2 this year.

Here's a pic of me in the Saker at last year's 25 Hours of Thunderhill, about 9 hours before the motor blew up.

I tested a Radical at Pahrump earlier tihs year. In all respects, it was a lot more of a sorted race car than the Saker was, from the slick sequential gearbox to the incredible brakes. The Saker suffers a bit too much from it's stock Subaru gearbox, and a general lack of sorting of the handling. It has lots of potential though, and I liked the closed cockpit vs. the Radical's open cockpit.

I know lots of Subaru autocrossers, and almost all of them have blown a tranny in their cars.

RM3, that is just way too cool. I'd give up one of my nads just to drive one of those things. Well, maybe not...

*Looks over at RacinM3* I am not worthy. I am not worthy. Very cool, RacinM3.

Yes, the WRX gearbox is a little limp-wristed. :( Seems odd. Wonder why they didn't put the STi 6 speed gearbox in it? If you don't mind me asking, what happened to the engine? Was it race prepped/tweaked for power, or just a stock 2.0?

They can build the motor to up to about 450 hp. If I remember right, ours was detuned from that to about 350 hp in hopes of making it survive the 25. It probably would have, but a minor (well, obviously later major) oiling issue caused it to blow up. It ventilated the crankcase pretty well. It sucked, because we had blown one up during testing 2 weeks prior and thought we had solved the problem. After blowing the motor, we put in the spare (which was the rebuilt test motor) so we could finish the race. After 1.5 hours putting it in, we went to start it only to find a mistake had been made in the rebuild process, and the motor broke virtually immediately after being started. So that was it.

When running, the car had so much torque that it would spin one of the rear wheels coming off virtually any speed corner. So much so that the cockpit would fill with smoke. It took some time to figure out how best to modulate it. Oh, and to answer your next question, the car did NOT have a limited slip, which was inexcusable for a racing car. I only found out about that after arriving at the track (I had not been present at the test day).

It could be good competition for the Radical if they'd only invest more into its development. Like anything else, it just takes $$$

I'll be back at it in the 25 this year with either a 911 GT3 cup car, or in another World Challenge spec BMW. Reliability is good.
