Maybe if it stays over $4 for a year or three someone will actually buy a Chevy Volt.
Meanwhile, production of the Chevy Volt has been temporarily halted to help reduce inventories.
I always thought that the Volt was going to be a tough sell at $40K even with tax incentives. But, I think it’s a very interesting concept. Even if it ends up being a commercial flop (which it looks like it will), I think it will go down in history as a ground breaking car.
The hurdles the car had to overcome are: The high price, the “Government Motors” thing, and the fact that for some, dumping on GM is a sport. Then the fires didn’t help.
I noticed yesterday a few stations had jumped 20 cents overnight to $3.79 for regular. I'm sure the rest will follow.
Then let the game continue! So, "we" pay $7,500 to each Volt customer? The govt. is calling for an increase in that subsidy to $10,000...on a $46,000 car? To buyers earning an average of $172,000/yr! Just a temporary arrangement I suppose, until we see a Voltswagan the "people" can afford? It goes 25 miles on a charge? Awesome! It costs $18 to charge it up...over a TEN hour night? Yep, just plug it in, You can "save a crap load on gas!" What a SUPER commercial THAT is! I wonder who that little girl works for? Com. Ed.? I suggest we save at LEAST a crap load on that kind of advertising! I hear we just "invested" about $400 million in Peugeot, too. Didn't see that one coming. Maybe they'll enter a couple of Twin-Turbo Bio-Diesel/Electric Hybrid Peuvolts at Sebring? I think that would be a much better way to develop "the car we can't live without."

this site is good for scouting out gas prices in your area. not sure why sam's gas doesn't make the list. noticed a few days ago sam's gas was much cheaper. i may drive those extra miles to save a few bucks.
just add your city or zip code,

I paid $4.019 today at Global, which is usually the cheapest in town. I wonder if we'll hit $5 this summer.
Having traveled a bit of Appalachia and the east coast this past week, I've seen it all, but I've yet to pay $4 a gallon....yet. Prices ranged from $3.62 in Hilton Head (with a range of $3.80 something to $3.54 on island) to $3.99 on the WV turnpike. Apparently ga$ in Cbus topped $4 temporarily while I was away, but had 'dropped' to $3.99 by this past Sunday. Yesterday I saw it for $3.81 @ the local discount grocery station with cars lined up for ga$.

Prices have been falling the last few weeks.
This morning it was $4.19/gal for 87.
Looking back at the past few cycles, this should be the high point for the year. Who knows?

I've seen it as low as $3.51 for 87 the past couple of weeks. Back to $3.54 last I noticed earlier in the week. $10 they don't peak until July 4th, tho.

Up here in the 'Shwa it is $1.30 a litre which translates to $4.92 a gallon.

Last month's bill already included daylight savings time shenanigans. Through reading the fine print, there was a 30 cent reduction in the average daily usage rate.

I have to run Premium (min 95 octane) and in Adelaide that's running at about 1.669AUD/L or about $6.61USD/USG
Whilst we're also talking electricity-what's the average you pay per kW/h?

I got ya beat. My natural ga$ bill last month was $14, and that was after a hefty drop in the monthly budget bill for this season.

Since I regulate electric and gas utilities for a living, I should probably answer this question. This can be a little tricky to answer in Minnesota because there can be a slew of different rates on an electric bill (standard utility rate, resource rate for fuel costs, special rider rates for different projects). The standard rate that most residential customers, including my family, pay in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area is between $0.10 and $0.12 per kWh. I think the fuel adjustment is typically in the $0.02 to $0.03 per kWh, but don't quote me because I don't pay the electric bill or audit electric utility fuel costs at work.

The winter rate for electricity is $0.084739:rolleyes:
For reasons unknown they take it out to a millionth of a dollar.
There is also a $4 base rate and about $2 in other random charges along with taxes that total 10.15%
Shell regular was $3.79 today.

Struth...assuming parity of the dollar which is the case most of the time, we're paying upwards of 2.5 to 3 times that rate per kw/h and that doesn't include the connection fee of 60 odd cents per day in Adelaide.

$18 a month fixed charge! It looks like Australia has taken a different approach to setting rates. When I have looked at cost studies, this is about how much the fixed charge should be in the States, but customers would revolt if they had to pay that much every month, granted the per kWh charge would be lower.

Regular is under $4.00 here and we have very high state taxes on gasoline. Premium was $4.17 two days ago. I read yesterday that prices have gone down for 10 weeks in a row. Not sure that's particularly true but it's definitely been easier at the pump the last week fill-ups.

Might be related to a crude oil pipeline rupture in Wisconsin. It is the same company who's line broke in Michigan a year or two back. It is a large pipeline heading to eastern refiners and will be out of commission indefinately.

So much for all that ethanol, eh?
So much for all that ethanol, eh?
http://www.ibj.com/livestock-farmers-still-seeking-pause-in-ethanol-production/PARAMS/article/35989
Livestock farmers and ranchers seeing their feed costs rise because of the worst drought in a quarter-century are demanding that the Environmental Protection Agency waive production requirements for corn-based ethanol.
The Obama administration sees no need for a waiver, siding with corn growers — many of them in presidential election battleground states Iowa and Ohio — who continue to support the mandate.
We've actually 'dropped' to $3.78 today.

Hurricane Isaac messing it up for everybody?
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-28/gasoline-rising-to-holiday-record-as-storm-surge-pressures-obama.html
Hurricane Isaac and a deadly blast at Venezuela’s Amuay refinery pushed gasoline to an almost four- month high and threatened to revive a debate about energy costs in the run-up to the presidential election in November.
Futures jumped yesterday in New York as Isaac forced closures of Gulf Coast refineries and reduced rates at others. That market is also reeling from an Aug. 25 explosion in Venezuela that killed at least 48 people and closed the country’s largest fuel-making plant. Futures are up 23 percent since their 2012 settlement low of $2.5501 a gallon on June 21.

$3.59 here for regular. All the refineries are local, the crude comes from Canada/Wyoming/Colorado & Utah. You couldn't get the fuel from here to the gulf coast beyond loading it on a train. So why would a disruption along the Gulf or in Venezuela change the prices here?

In the low/mid $3s here- there are anecdotal stories of people starting to run gas to NY/NJ. No idea if it's true, but we're already the prime supplier of less-than-legit guns & cigarettes to NY, so it's plausible.
On the PA side, we've been OK so far. Rushes at stations as power comes back, but no serious lines or shortages. Yet.
