USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Practice

On Friday morning AJ4 practices 19th out of the 32 cars taking to the track. He's lapping only 0.8 seconds slower than the guys up front. Why aren't the top four -- Michael Lewis, Jay Drake, Byran Tyler, and Dave Steele -- in the IRL by now? ;)

As a side note, Jimmy Kite practiced in 10th, suggesting that a Hemelgarn Indycar is an even bigger handicap than one prepared by grandpa Foyt with tools that he knows where they comed from. ;)

These guys have talent. I'm not saying that they are Sennas, but they can drive. And to be a backmarker in the EFin EARL for craps sakes?!?

I think that I would just walk away from the contract and go teach at Skip's or something.

Vegas 1998 - start 20th, running 5th, tire blew. Indy 99 - practicing at speeds that were well within the top 15, Panther car breaks putting him into the wall. Injured, couldn't run the 500. Panther forgets that he exists (only other IRL start was an abortion with Marko - Marko's only IRL appearance).

Because, you know, Barnes is such a keen judge of talent.

Anyone know why Helmut disappeared from the series thereafter (other than pure lack of money - I don't recall seeing any sponsorship on that car at PIR)?

Heard rumblings that all Marko actually OWNED was the engine and maybe a down payment on the transporter. Other than that - again, from what I heard - the other stuff was on "I'll start paying you next week" type deal.

She was under 160 all that session and in and out of the pits according to the commentary I read while gettying ready to copy and paste here. If Booby thinks The Mile is the place to finally let her race, he is sadly mistaken. But Booby isn't the sharpest knob ever to graduate from Denison.

I'm trying to follow his race on T&S USACLive.com, but the race has been red flagged because of lightening strikes in the immediate area. After 19 laps Foyt hasn't done anything but lap about 3 mph slower than Dave Steele, the leader.

Okay, they finally got the race in. Foyt started 10th (I think) and fell back to 13th fairly quickly. Spent most of the race there then fell back to 18th. Then made it back up to 11th, then going backwards again before coming to a stop in Turn 1 on lap 89 of 100. He never ran anywhere near the fast guys.

Holy schnikes, Batman....

FHonda got pwned this week.... only 6 of the top 10 places, and only one guy on the podium !

Dashley with a fuel economy run, trying for the victory.... geez, where have we seen that one before ???

Gotta imagine that Gaylio cant be too happy with the Sham for taking him out AND then getting the "W".... which looks like it puts Sham in the all-time career wins leader for the EARL... What a privilege !

Hate to admit it, but I watched a few laps towards the end, and they were lapping some of the slower cars like they were.... well, ride buying furriners with no oval experience.

When does the madness stop for Darren Manning and his fellow backache sufferers and chiropractic regulars Dixon and Briscoe ? Someone save them from the EARL before they are so far off the radar screen that their careers turn into Atlantis.

I'm afraid that it may be too late for Dixon and co. He hardly gets a mention in the press (down here) these days.

As a Kiwi I want him to do well and I believe he has a talent but he is in the wrong series. It's just a waste. :(

People bag me for not following him in the IRL because, to the uneducated it's open-wheel racing and they know I have the 'passion'. But I just can't do it. Apart from the odd channel surf, news clip or whats shared here I haven't followed him since Chip took him on the road to nowhere and that's sad.

Scott, mate, give Ken Smith a call back home and ask his advice. In my humble opinion you don't belong there and I don't want to see you get hurt, again.

Rant over.

Rusty.

Andretti/Green doesn't mix up their strategies enough. Looked like they were all saving fuel.

I'm glad that Foyt parked it, I'm sure some here will give them kudos for doing so, because it sure beats him staying out being a dangerous obstacle.

I'm always amazed at how bad those cars look.

Nice crowd there at the finish too...

is it me, or does that look like a "good" crowd for a HS Football game ????

How low can OW go in terms of attendance at the Mile?

I was there for the Champ Car race, and I can say with confidence that even the CC attendance was considered not good by many, our fans doubled what I see in that picture.

Disclaimer: It was my first race at The Mile, so I have nothing to compare what I saw to.

Hmmm.... is it smaller than the crowds at phoenix?

I think RM said that Michigan will be dismal this year.

It may be interesting to see what a revitalized Champcar could do if one of the tracks decided to try a race with them again..... (man, i can almost see the We're Back! banners with CC and MIS and US 500 logos ---- and i want to win 100 mill in the lottery, and maybe world peace while i'm at it)

Here in Texas we draw 20k+ for Friday night HS games. At least in the larger school districts.

Here in Ohio, a couple years back a game between Delphos Jefferson (public school) and Delphos St. John's (Catholic) drew 6,500 fans.

The entire population of Delphos is 6,900.

6,900 only inbetween times when Delphos has been wiped off the map by tornadoes. ;)

I think they've managed to go six months since the last one. I think that's a record. :)

"oops" is what I used to say when Delphos got creamed and I knew 1400 Airport Road could be next.

If CC and IRL raced at Michigan in the same year, would be a great comparison of speeds and driver talent.

Heard a commercial this weekend for NASCAR at the Glen, and they're running a buy one nascar, get one IRL promotion, playing up how you can see Danica and the rest of the stars of the IRL. I almost drove off the road when I heard that. Methinks tickets arent selling that great for the IRL race.

Only the tail end of that might have reached my ex-residence outside of Ada. A really good storm would have helped the new buyer of my place on the clearing of the ten acre wood lot of old, dying trees and helping it into the next two hundred years.
