Gentlemen, can you join the Danica bandwagon?
Here's a suggestion for the Indy Racing League as it considers sanctions against the Pampers-sponsored Andretti Green Whining Machine, whose four drivers boycotted last weekend's mandatory autograph session before the A.J. Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile.
Forget some kind of fine.
Better yet, make them spend a week in Danica Patrick's shoes.
Wheldon will be the first in line to try out her shoes.
If I hear "She didn't ask for this attention" one more time I'm going to puke.
Yeah, she was forced to wear this (http://www.fastdates.com/PLN.Images2003/PLN.DanicaPatrick.jpg) outfit.
And they got her all dolled up for the ESPYs:
http://espn.starwave.com/media/rpm/2005/0726/photo/g_patrick_412.jpg
Did she win something for her Findy 500 achievement? :shakehead
And Oreo sez to suck it up boyz:
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?series=rpm&id=2117278
But that's a double-edged sword, because to maintain her celebrity cachet, she's going to have to start winning races at some point and develop into a great race-car driver. And that's more difficult than it looks; it took the average IndyCar driver 33 races to reach victory circle, which for Danica, would be near the end of the 2006 season. Can the mainstream media maintain interest for that long?
Answer: No.

Now let's be realistic, there is a difference between playing the games she did to get a ride, and the avalanche of media that came with the 500. It's the fans at the track that really go bonkers for her, not just little girls looking for someone to replace Sarah Fisher.

No there isn't. The FHM spread fueled the media avalanche. Sex sells. Hot chicks in leather draped over fast cars sells. Sarah Fisher, as popular as she was, never had the media coverage that Danica has had. If she would have stopped by Jenny Craig then headed over to Maxim, she would probably still be driving in the IRL today.

I watched the espy's with a couple friends. She was up for a few awards, but IIRC she didn't win anything.
If you're gonna show Danica at the ESPY's, you should use the picture of her with Jenny Finch: http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/3329/Events/3329/JennyFinch_Mazur_5449052_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Finch,%20Jennifer%20(II)

The FHM spread wasn't all that great. Danica was the least (http://www.fhmus.com/girls/screensaver/) attractive of the bunch.
In my mind, she got the Rahal job (http://www.skipbarber.com/news/article.asp?AID=1149) four months before the FHM spread, and I don't remember much media fuss at the time of it, sure people have asked about it, even this (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/24/AR2005062401537.html) article in the Washington Post points that out, but she isn't stealing attention from the other drivers, she just getting attention where there wasn't any before. I don't think she knew, or the IRL knew that she would take all the attention. Hornish is at least smart enough to have a good perspective on it all.
How tall is Jenny and/or short is Danica???

I believe Danicle is the skankiest out of them all, she make THEM look good!
And she's handled it all with complete grace. At this point, she could write the manual on how to handle instant fame in the best possible manner.
I agree 100%. I just cannot bash her. Her only less-than-classy moment was her (early) comments on DNFisher.
I also really wish that she was back in Atlantics catfighting with Legge. Now THAT would be a freakin story!

They didn't before the 500. They didn't know she would garner all the attention before, and that the fan/media would go nuts. Just look at the Watkins Glen test before Danicamania (directed by the IRL) was in full gear.

18 days after the 500 and she was the headline (http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?series=irl&id=2087493) even if she wasn't the headline. Now it's the IRL reacting to what the media wants, not the other way around.

And she only was on the US Women's Gold Medal winning softball team in the 2004 Olympics. Danica finished 4th at Indy and took out two guys!
Jennie Finch also pitched a perfect game with only 27 Ks. She still has a long way to go to earn her reputation. Danica is miles ahead of her!

Nonsense. The FHM spread didn't create a blip on the radar outside the open wheel racing forums.
It was the fact that she got the a media's attention with her performance on the run up to the IRL 500 and then her team made her look like a threat to win in spite of her rookie mistakes.

Her "run" to the 500 got sidetracked too....IRL crapped their pants because the hype machine was in full swing at Homestead where we all got a peek at what was to come. The Danica got caught up in a firey grinding wreck and sat out a race because of a concussion. It wasn't until Montegi (PP reference) when she qualified well that she got any momentum rolling again. Other than that and Indy and the pole she's been worthless if you ask me, and not worth one second of the attention (whether she handled it well or not).

What race did "The Danica" sit out?
http://www.indyracingleague.com/stats/driver_detail.php?driver_id=259&nYear=2005
Your negative opinion of her is full of bias because she's running in the IRL. She's completed 1819 laps, the same as Hornish and 30 positions ahead of her all male competition. Pretty good for a rookie. If you can't recognize those simple accomplishments, and dismiss her run at Indy, her Pole, her almost Pole at Motegi, I would say you can't adequately gauge what an accomplishment is. Don't want to like her? Fine. But be honest, that it's because you disdain anything or anyone in Tony's league. Because the other excuses just don't float.

Your positive opinion of her is full of bias because she does run in the IRL. She hasn't had a win, unlike alot of her male competition. She's completed less laps than Sharp, Helio CastroNeves, Dan Wheldon and Patrick Carpentier. She has led less races than Franchitti, Wheldon, Sheckter, Hornish and Kanaan. Her average starting spot is 9th, and her average finishing spot is 10.8. (i can pull stats out of my ass too, ooooooh.)
If you think she's all that and a bag of chips, then you are just as bad as the PR department at IMS. Love her? Fine. But be honest, its because you have loved the IRL before you joined here, and you have tried hard to walk the fence, and not shown yourself as the gomer that you are. Because the other excuses just don't float.

I love the part where you said she completed less laps then Sharp, Helio CastroNeves, Dan Wheldon and Patrick Carpentier. Just four drivers finishing more laps than her so she's not worthy. If this was an old school racing discussion, simply about rookie results your stance would be interesting. But since you think all this has to do with gomerdom and not the qualifications and results of a driver behind the wheel it's kind of useless.
Oh, and Timo Glock who is also leading rookie of the year in his series, has an average starting position of 9 and finish is 13th. (I would say I can pull stats out of my ass too, but I actually use a computer.)

Being the fifth best in laps completed in the IRL does not impress me, as the talent pool is pretty shallow. It's like having the world's fifth most powerful army or the worlds 5th ranked space program. The gap from #1 to #5 is huge.
What race did "The Danica" sit out?
I stand corrected, she didn't sit out any races. It was the staggering around the safety vehicle that I vividly remember after the firey grinding wreck. The "rookie" pussie footed around Phoenix getting her feet wet again. It's my opinion that the wreck and subsequent reacquainting of herself to racing on ovals after her concussion limited ABC/ESPN/IMS' start on the "Danica-mania" that was to ensue in the month of May. The rebuttal was to nrc NOT you.
From the sexploitation level, yeah, I think she's skanky. I like Danica as a racer, not a pin-up being sexploited by the IRL, which unfortunately is the image they've projected. I think it lowers the level of ALL racing. From your "Rookie of the Year" angle I believe Patrick Carpentier is leading her but he has "Indy-style" experience even though they have the same # of races in those sheissmobiles. Yeah, she's whipping up on the others like Ryan Briscoe (Toyota), Enge (Chevy), Paul Dana (broken back), Jeff Bucknum (who?), Marty Roth (banned from racing anything anymore), and Larry Foyt (legendary status even though the dude has actually crashed a sheissmobile in an IRL race before).
In fact, the BOMBARDIER ROOKIE OF THE YEAR is such a joke Larry Foyt, Marty Roth and the great Tomas Enge are considered rookies in both years 2004 and 2005. PLEASE explain....no brag, just facts.

Other than the accolades I provided previously she's been worthless from a racing perspective, very much a non-factor. I don't see the brilliance of her skills to match the hype. Tooling around alone, going backwards and making excuses are not what legends are made of. I see that every week at my local short track. She didn't even lead a lap at the very race she won the pole at.
Is she better than 50% or more of the current IRL drivers? Put 'em in equal cars and find out......other than that she needs to go forward and I haven't seen it.

I was not trying to compare the depth of field of champcar vs IRL. I was trying to point out that zero podiums, 2 DNF's, 5th in laps completed, 9th in points, and a singe top five do not merit super-star like press coverage. If she were a guy, she'd be getting the same number of column inches in all the national papers as Timo Glock is.
I still can't hate her. She's handling this with class. Except for a few mis-speaks (something about "winning every race") she doesn't seem to be believing in her own media hype. I wish Rahole let her be in the Atlantics.
As far as the earl relying on, encouraging, promoting, etc., etc., the DanicaMania, well, don't worry. That will resolve itself. Unfavorably to the gomers. Bank on it.

Even the best drivers would have a hard time living up to it and she's still at the "getting her feet wet" stage. I hate to say it about any driver but her chances of surviving the EARL physically and with career intact are not great.
