When and why did Phil have to pit (which is why I assume he finished one lap back)?

I didn't catch anything in the commentary about that. When the race notes get posted at the TA site we'll know more. After quals I expected a lot more from Geibler.

I'm told he was running 3rd when a suspension part broke - not sure when though.

From the Sunday morning notes...

Lap 15: #41 GIEBLER is black-flagged and has to complete a drive-through penalty for shortcutting the course at the chicane.

That's the only mention of him in the race notes.

Corky? Corky?... :gomer:

NRC, any chance you can change Cork's ID to LeggeFan? :D

Legge drove a good solid race, but I would have to say she had plenty of luck on her side.

Kasemets was leading comfortably when the light rail tracks finally took a toll on his transmission. Zwolsman was running into a similar problem when he took over the lead, and gave up the lead when it looked like he couldn't find a gear going into the back straight.

Sciuto was probably the most impressive one out there, making a pass on Wirth at the new chicane and almost got Zwolsman at the end.

Bessette ran into the T4 exit wall (where else) while trying to lap Dan Cobb.

Don't think Giebler got up to third. Kasemets, Zwolsman, Legge, and Martinez were never outside of the top 4.

Ishikawa was literally trying to hit every damn thing there was all weekend.

After watching the Atlantic race I was pretty sure there was not going to be any meaningful on track passing for the Champ Cars. Sciuto on Wirth might have been the only top 5 non-mechanically induced pass.

Any word on how Legge managed to outqualify her "faster" teammate? Any details on how she teleported past Martinez to put herself in position to win when Kasemets and Zolsman had problems?

Hats off Sciuto. Impressive for his first Atlantic race.

But why do you call 4th to 1st "a solid race" and 7th to 4th, "impressive?"

It wasn't even the transmission for Tonis. Just the shifter cable :(

Legge got the jump on Martinez at the start, seemed like the outside of the row was better for starts. First 3 row of cars on the inside of the row all lost a spot at the start. So essentially Legge went from 3rd to 1st while Sciuto went from 8th to 4th.

All Legge really did was follow around not making a single mistake and took over the win when the 2 cars in front of her ran into mechanical problems. It was solid, but without the 6 and 11 having problems it didn't look like she was going to get past. Bessette sound like he was having problems with the new chicane.

Sciuto had a major battle with Wirth and had to pass him on track. It didn't look like Wirth had major problems because after he was passed by Sciuto, he brushed the wall pretty good at T4 and was still going as fast if not faster than Just Al. For a 17 year old kid to race on a track that no one else really made a pass on and not make a single mistake (at least none that I could see) was definitely impressive.

I'm still working on his postrace press. The "freakin' shifter handle snapped in half", as he says, in his hand on lap 9. He couldn't freakin' believe, after all the weekend had brought our way, Qual 1 times except Prov. Pole, were wiped away. His fastest lap of weekend, GONE too. Then the shifter just breaking in half as he was kickin' butt in a comfy lead.
He's in great spirits regardless & hardly believed me when I told him, he's STILL in 2nd place/Points. 33 behind Zwolsman, only 2 ahead of Legge.

All of the last minute testing we did at Fontana Wednesday too ! This isn't for the meek, as YOU know ;)

I'm struggling right now; all I can think of is a Stevie Nicks song "Sometimes It's A B****".... 'but sometimes it's a breeze.'

A much needed weekend off, will help us all.

Congrats to Kate, she's the real deal & quite fun to be around. So glad she landed in the TAC series this year... she is a HOOT ! The bonds between the racers, is a story in & of itself. I really hope someone picks up on this yet this year & SHOWS, the comradery that's happening in the paddocks.

See ya in Denver !

Plus, he showed you how to get around the track at Dromo1, so you have to give him some props !!!!
