Now here is something you don't see very often. 13 minutes into the session and Sperafico and Marshall top the charts. ;)

Ooops:

15 min RED FLAG
15 min #11 Ricardo Sperafico (R) is rolling down pit lane without power. He ran out of fuel on this long 2.709-mile road course.
15 min RED FLAG #5 Marcus Marshall (R) has come to a stop on course. He may have run out of fuel also.

5 minutes left and the leader, Bourdais, is almost a second off the pace from first practice last year. Wonder what's up with that?

edit: make that half a second now.

Wow, Tracy first out to make a qualifying run. That is very unusual.

^^ Possible rain??

That was my thought as well but Race Director hasn't said anything about the weather that I caught.

23 min Servia was up 2/10ths on Bourdais but runs out of fuel coming out of the hairpin! He's stopped on track.

Bummer! Unusual goof by the NH crew.

Just noticed that neither RHR or Sperafico have been out to qualify.

Session is over. RHR & Sperafico never got out and AJ is last having run all of two laps.

They are taking a very long time getting Andrew Ranger out of his car.

"Ranger is out of the #27 Tide car and is being placed in the ambulance. He'll be taken to the Champ Car Mobile Medical Center for evaluation."

There was a final update saying Ranger was out and on the way to the Champ Car medical facility. Hopefully he is OK.

What a strange session. No one made it out for a second stint. AJ, Wilson, Tag and several others with less then 5 laps.

What did Ranger hit? Tire barrier, conc. wall?

It was turn 7 which is the second half of the 6/7 chicane.

Don't know where along the chicane he ended up.

'24 min RED FLAG #27 Andrew Ranger (R) has smacked the wall at Turn 7. '

No idea what is at turn 7.

TSN is reporting that he has been released from the care centre.....

MONTREAL (CP) - Andrew Ranger of Roxton Pond, Que., escaped injury after his car hit a wall during the first qualifying session at the Montreal Molson Indy on Friday.

The Mi-Jack driver was taken by ambulance to the Champ Car medical unit at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and later released.

The Canadian didn't suffer any injuries but was shaken up by the crash, a race spokesman said. He has been cleared to drive in Saturday's second qualifying session and Sunday's race.

Ranger, 18, seemed to lose control of his car going into Turn 7. He did not appear to hit the wall hard, but pieces of the car spread across the track, bringing out the red flag to end the session.

where they added before this years F1 race?

Good question (ie. were they added). I was hoping there'd be some comparison this year a la this article.

Champ Car times vs. F1 (http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/champcar/19087/)

RHR and Sperafico are both back out for this mornings practice. But for how long? ;)

Edit: Ranger on track as well.

PT's philosophy for the last few races has been to get out there fast and lay down some laps. Yes, the track gets faster later but the traffic gets thicker. I think he realized he scrwwwd himself several times last year by waiting until the bitter end and then either getting held up in traffic or losing the last part of the session to somebody else's red flag.

Hope Oriol wins this one.
