anyone know the state of the program?
Haven't heard much about this venture at all. I'd speculate that it won't go further than the concept stage. Just because there is no demand for supersonic business jets. Just as in the commercial jet arena, it is all about range and efficiency. Sukhoi is probably the most profitable, and successful, Russian aircraft manufacturer post communisim. Other than that they are just maintaining their fleet of large transports.

I am sure th russians are capable of some pretty good designs (when they dont steal them from the US) but the outward appearance of their planes always look like junk.
plus after years of hiding their aircraft acidents i dont see why anyone would invest in their equipment right now.

The reason why they look like junk (military ac) is that the Communist doctrine dictated that the aircraft had to be mass produced and be able to be used from rough airstrips. Plus they assumed a war of attrition so they just threw them together. The Russian aircraft during the cold war were impressive but would not have a chance against the western aircraft at the time. The western avionics and weapons systems at the time were vastly superior. Even today, the Russian weapons systems are just reaching western '80s technology. It wasn't until the MiG 29 and the SU 27 that the Russian aircraft had a build quality that rivaled western military aircraft. Even to this day, most new Russian military aircraft still don't have 'glass' cockpits. Which is the norm for the latest western stuff. (The Eurofighter, Raptor and Rafale.)

alot of people have been rating the newer SU-30somthings pretty highly, and talking abou the mig-29's look down shoot down capaility. bt none of those plans were ever put to the test.
I understand the emphasis on ruggedness of their millitary planes, but in terms of commercial and private aviation it doesn't make sense.
aeroflot and russian planes have shakey safety records and given the choice between a shiney Boeing or Airbus versus a russian plane is not a tought decision.
I flew on aeroflot from St. Pete to Moscow and the i was surprised by how they operated. the seat backs all folded forward like lawn chairs when you got up. they taxied by the runways at 60 MPH, and when you landed guys would run up with hoses to hose the brakes down creating alot of steam. I was on one of those tupolovs that look like a 727 knockoff. I saw another plane they were using that had a glass nose like a old bomber. :shakehead
