So when does Grand Am release the rest of their 2006 schedule?
They have already announced 8 races including doubles with the IRl & Cup.
If they were going to race at Long Beach why would they wait on announcing it especially if Long Beach tickets are already on sale?

The full Grand-Am schedule will likely be released this weekend at VIR.
I can't see 'em holding it as long as the Mexico City Champ Car race a month away.

Looks like it's going to happen.
news conference is scheduled for Wednesday when series and Long Beach race officials are expected to announce the deal that will bring the cars featured in the 24 Hours of Daytona to the streets of Long Beach, sources with knowledge of the negotiations confirmed.

Grand-Am likely would bring its Rolex Series Daytona Prototype category to Long Beach, a class that features rounded, futuristic-looking chassis.
So that's what they are...futuristic-looking. :)

Grand Am is running in Mexico this year so it is possible that the original agreement to run at Long Beach 2006 was made at the same time. Who knows if that is the case but it is possible.

No, Mexico in 2006 will likely be with Busch Series in the spring.
I have a feeling this has to do with a Japanese auto manufacturer that likes the color red.

Red with white is Toyota's color scheme. Look at the Chipsters cars (IRL and GA), the F1 cars, the GT One (all red), the IRL test hack Penske ran (mostly red), their ROI from the IndyCar Series.

The traditional Japanese racing color (for Honda, at least) was white. Remember the all-white GP cars?
But Toyota's logotype on banners, cars, etc. is always bright red. Everywhere you turn at the TOYOTA Grand Prix of Long Beach, there's a logo banner with TOYOTA in bright red. So that's why I said red. :)

cameraman, ALMS left a hole in it's schedule to fit Long Beach, so I think this was a recent decision.

Grand-Am released its schedule yesterday, and while Long Beach is on there, this year's Champ Car/Grand-Am pairing at Mexico City has been replaced by a Busch Series/Grand-Am twin bill, although speedtv.com says that could change to a repeat of the current arrangement.

Well I finally watched a GrandAm race, about 2 hours of it. It answered a lot of "whatever happend to...?" questions. The cars however .... OMG .... those DPs have to be the ugliest things I've ever seen, a field full of DSRs would have been less offensive.

I have to ask, and I'm looking for a serious answer, why does the greenhouse look like that? They have that sleek armored car look, don't you think? But why is that necessary? Is the roll cage the size of a CJ5? As someone asked, where they looking at it when they designed it? The open air "greenhouse" of an Eastern modified is much smaller.
I fairness, I may be wrong but they do look a little better than when they debuted.

IIRC the reason is to slow the cars down, either by creating more frontal area, or by blocking the airflow to the rear wing to reduce downforce. I can't remember which.
