As it is when disasters happen - numbers vary.

CBC is reporting 30 grand.

30,000 were supposed to have been in the WTC
10,000 in New Orleans.
100,000 in the Tsunami.

the media tends to way over due it. I wish they would wait for the dust to settle so they can mkae better estimates.

Relief workers have yet to reach many remote villages and officials said the final death toll was likely to climb far above the 19,400 already known to have died in Pakistan.

I'd say thats not an overblown estimate of a death toll.


Although I totally agree with you. Remember when Rudy ordered 20k body bags after 9/11. Same thing happened in New Orleans. I heard media reports before Katrina saying 100k would die. Good job. They've done a great job of overhyping the death toll with Katrina. They may have underestimated damage to the economy, but we'll find out about that between now and say March.
