This is kind of a family tradition at Thanksgiving. When I was younger I thought it was kind of silly. But we would go around the room and everyone would say one thing they were thankful for that year. It could be heartfelt and sentimental ("I'm thankful for another year with my loved ones."), cliches ("I'm thankful for my health."), or even humerous ("I'm thankful Dad didn't wear the tie he wore last year."). Now it's something I look forward to each year. Trying to think of just one really makes you think about all the things you have to be thankful for, which in my case is a lot. So I'll get it started on here.

I am thankful for:
all the sacrifices my family has made to help me get through school.

My family has a similar tradition. I can remember one year when an uncle of mine, who is a notoriously big eater, was near the end of the line and was "thankful that we're almost done being thankful!"

Like you, I've got a pretty big list of things that I could rattle off. I guess, though, that the biggest one is that the first year of marriage has been a hell of a lot of fun, and the wife has decided to keep me. :D

Seriously though, I'm just thankful I finally have a college degree. Five years ago when I had a 1.5 GPA in high school, there is no way in hell you could've convinced me I'd graduate with honors from a 4 year school. :o

I am thankful for sports.

Because if it were not for sports, we would all be talking about soap operas.

Because if it were not for sports, billions of gallons of beer would go undrunk.

Because if it were not for sports, we would be complaining about unimportant stuff like politics instead of what really matters like OSU vs Michigan, the AL vs. the NL, why the BCS sucks, and how the IRL is hurting open wheel racing.

Because if it were not for sports, I would have to hang out with family on Thanksgiving instead of going straight to the couch to see the Lions and Cowboys.

Dried corn. I'm part Ojibway and corn was preserved for the winter by slowly drying it. It can be made easily by cutting it off the cob and placing it in a warm oven on a cookie sheet for a long time until it's very dry. Then you store it in a cloth sack. To eat it you simmer it in milk. It rehydrates and has a nutty taste. This was passed down from great grandmother, to grandmother to my mom to me. My favorite feast food. :thumbup:

There are once again, 250 miles between my schizophrenic family and I, still working on the next 10,000 preferably in a E X NE direction :D

That and the fact that my pops rocks, as far an ornery geezerly bastid can be anyways. :)

I am thankful that every day I have more opportunities than I can possibly accept. I've worked hard to be the best (or at least among them) and it has paid off. Last month I had to decide among trips to the Cook Islands, Fiji, Tahiti, Senegal, and Mexico City. I chose the Champ Car race in Mexico City and had the time of my life.

I'm thankful for TravelGuy who often thinks I'm completely loony but supports everything I try. 21 years' worth next month.

I'm also thankful that my wonderful Mom is still with us. Her older sister (93 1/2) died fairly suddenly last week but Mom (nearly 92) is active, mentally sharp, and the best mom anyone could have.

edit: It was supposed to be *one* thing. See #1: so many good things, I couldn't narrow it down to just one. ;)
