One. Funny. M'er F'er.

RIP. :(

One of the funniest things he did was in his stand up movie after his free base accident. He lit a match and moved around quickly while asking the audience what they thought that was. He quipped, "it's Richard Pryor on fire running down the street." End of the movie. :)

His brilliance was such that while you were laughing so hard that you couldn't breath, you also felt the underlying pain behind the humor vividly. Adios.

The only movie I can remember with Richard Pryor, that I was allowed to watch, involved boxing I think.

You should check out a few of his classics. "See no Evil, Hear no Evil", "Stir Crazy", "The Toy" (w/Jackie Gleason), and "Silver Streak" are all worth a watch.

My favorite, and one of the first DVDs in my collection) was 'Brewster's Millions'.

'The Toy' and 'See No Evil, Hear No Evil' are also very good. No doubt he was a funny guy. RIP.

This has been rough for me, he was a man I idolized professionally, despite all his personal demons. First Rodney and Johnny now this, they all seem to be leaving the stage... :(

I don't even have the right movie. :( The movie I was thinking of was a Bill Cosby movie called "Let's Do It Again".

We lost a great one today. Like so many great ones, he had a hard life, with drugs and such. I will always remember the good things about him an will enjoy his works for many years. RIP

What, no mention yet of "Greased Lightning" (even though I read somewhere - might have been Leonard Miller's otherwise horrendous Silent Thunder - that Wendell wasn't exactly pleased with how Richard portrayed him)?

SNL replayed part of Richard's word association skit with Chevy Chase on Weekend Update.

Trish, if you've never seen Richard Pryor work, you owe yourself a rental of one of his solo standup shows. Many think the best is Richard Pryor: Live in Concert (1979), but they're all great. Folks often forget his dramatic roles in films like 'Lady Sings the Blues', 'Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling', 'Lost Highway' as well as his TV work on everthing from the Partridge Family to his own show on NBC and his hugely successful network specials.

He was one of the most successful people in show business for well over a decade, and his standup was edgy and on the target like a rifle shot. He told the truth out loud about things nobody else had the guts to whisper about, and he took a lot of heat form all sides. I recall when Bill Cosby called him out for going over the line, but it was a time when someone needed to.

Dead honky.

Pryor's gone yet Jeff Foxworthy isn't. Life is unfair sometimes.

Thus providing SNL with its first funny bit in at least five years.

That was my first thought when I saw the news yesterday.

Another good one from that flick:

When that fire hit your ass, it will sober your ass up *quick*! I saw something, I went, "Well, that's a pretty blue. You know what? That looks like *fire*!" Fire is inspirational. They should use it in the Olympics, because I ran the 100 in 4.3.

Pryor's flawed legacy

Comedian's vulgarity made him no role model

This past Saturday Richard Pryor left this life and bequeathed to our culture as much darkness as he did the light his extraordinary talent made possible.

When we look at the remarkable descent this culture has made into smut, contempt, vulgarity and the pornagraphic, those of us who are not willing to drink the Kool-Aid marked "all's well," will have to address the fact that it was the combination of confusion and comic genius that made Pryor a much more negative influence than a positive one.

Role model? Who in the hell would have seen Pryor as a role model?

Dude was funny and tried to make people laugh... and he did.

RIP
