View Full Version : Indy 500 k
I am hearing rumblings that Honda doesn't want to chance supplying 33 cars that will last for the 500 mile race in May and that they are politicing to shorten the race to 500K instead of Miles.
That way they can sling together enough motors to meet the bell of 33 and not have to worry about the longevity and downside to having as many mechanical failures throughout the race.
The I500 is condensed!!!!! :D

BB: But the broadcast partner insists we still fill the same time slot!
TG: Have the drivers go half-speed.
BB: I – I think people would notice.
TG: How about more coverage of the girl?
BB: That’s kind of … played.
TG: Ok. We’ll split the field into two consecutive heats of 500k – two half-length races for the time of one.
BB: Brilliant! … But 33 doesn’t divide evenly by two.
TG: Don’t worry – we can do this with only 12. That 6 car USGP got some good coverage.
BB: Brilliant!

It would be funny and sad to see an Indy 500k with 16 starters. Maybe it is being done to celebrate the great heritage behind the 1916 Indy 300.

Seriously? You guys are just pulling my leg, right?
I would think that a change like that could not be done for this year's race because of broadcast commitments with ABC, plus sponsorship contracts. Not to mention those fans that bought tickets for a 500m race would have a right to be cheesed off, since they're getting gipped out of 190 miles.
That's OK...probably a lot the same people that were at the F-1 show. They're used to it.

500 miles, 500 kilometers.....no biggie. Even Nascar does it, so that must mean it's OK. Besides, them hondas IS all metric, and it is around Y114. to the dollar.
When honda renames the track Montegi-America, that will stir up far more fuss than a change to 500k.
