View Full Version : Why is it so freakin' warm?!

It's nearly the middle of January in Chicago and our forecasted highs for the next week range from 35-50 degrees. Look like another season of sitting on my Arctic Cat in the garage instead of firing it up and tacking the trails and fields (without a 6-8 hour drive). What gives?!

Global warming, El Nino, or the Heat Miser. :)

Winter of 2000 - Chitowncartfreak does not own snowmobile, but due to heavy and consistent snowfall during winter of 2000/2001 decides to purchase snowmobile prior to start of next winter.
Winter of 2001 - present - some of the dryest, warmest winters on record.
There's the reason...

It will probably be colder during the Milwaukee race weekend.

Why complain?! We went through the same thing with a snowmobile, buying it and then not having it snow all season, but I don't mind the nice weather. I like not having to let the van warm up or having to put on a sweatshirt along with a coat. I do miss the sunshine though.

I dont mind the warmer weather, but everyone's getting sick. I've had strep already, one of my co-workers has bronchitis, and two other co-workers have colds. I'm sick of it. OTOH, this means we'll have snow in May, which delays road construction season.

This weather is awesome.
You guys are frickin' high. 25-30 degrees, sunshine, and snowcover > 40-45 degrees and rain/mist/clouds with 20 minutes of sun per week.
Another way to look at it is snow>mud.
On the plus side,( ) I blew up one of my sleds during the final week before Christmas (the day before the weather turned warm). I just got it in the shop last week. It's not quite so painful being without it when there's nowhere within 400 miles to ride. :(

It's the pattern we're in for now. Don't worry it will change. Folks in the NE will get a taste of it this weekend. We had 22 days below normal in December, so the past 3 weeks above or @ normal have just evened it out. Europe and the Far East have been getting it recently. In fact, I read an article that there was frost in New Dehli for the first time in 70 years! Go figger. The forecast models are suggesting a change in the next 7-10 days. For now, I'm enjoying it, as this means my ga$ use/bill will be less.

Here too, it's bright sun and 56 degrees here at Mildew Manor. The mildew may have to go on life support if this keeps up....
