Think they could make the sides a little flatter?

No way. That can't be the final profile! :vomit:
Also look at the headlight decals, droopy eye syndrome.

I guess the Frances are tired of people calling DPs the ugliest race cars.

Interesting how steep the windshield is. Should produce more drafting and make the cars less aerosensitive?

The horizontal front airdam/spoiler is a new approach I guess to get more front downforce given that the hood looks to be much shorter.

The rear spoiler looks to be a wing. And a spec one at that.

Yes and ugly, but NASCARs version of the Charger already told me they don't care about making it pretty.

Car of Tommorow ???

Hope it's just Saturday, then it goes away !!

That's a front engine DP. Apparently NASCAR used Grand Am to track thest their theories on high-drag cars for the cup series.

I cannot belive that a race series is working to make a car less aerodynamic. "car of the future" is almost orwellian in this case.

NASCAR has peaked. Even the most loyal sister ****ing, three fingered, barefooted, coon dog chasin' NASCAR Fans won't buy that crap.

Except for the worst, and hidious paint job ever...It looks better than what they got now. :gomer:

Going with a wing instead of a spoiler is one small step into the future, Maybe by 2112 they will be fuel injected. :D

The talk for years has been about how to make the cars more like the trucks, because they felt the trucks were better aerodynamically......

Guess this is as close to making a nascar like a truck.

What the heck is that? All kidding aside, what is it?

And, why?

You can certainly see the family resemblance.

A day or two ago I found myself reminiscing about the cup cars of the early 90s.....before those stupid headlight decals. They weren't the best looking race cars but they sure as hell were easier on the eyes than crap like this. And you could tell a ford from a chevy.

Its not mentioned much, but a few of the races in the chase last year had some half empty grandstands..... (so nobody gets confused, I mean individual GS at each track - i'm not insinuating that it was a half empty racetrack)

Have the Frances put too much stock into fickle fans in the Blue while alienating their diehards in the Gray?

What I find interesting is that the more sophisiticated areodynamics could actually lower the cost by making cars usable at more tracks, and reducing hundreds of hours of painstaking front-end fabrication currently used to optomize downforce.

Aesthetics aside, what they are doing has some logic to it.

By templating the majority of the car and the parts that matter most aero wise, they reduce the point of windtunnel testing and aero development

By making the car punch a bigger hole in the air and create more drag the more drafting allows people to pass.

If the trucks are an example, it should produce better racing... If you like that sort of racing and can stand to look at the cars

Then they should race this atrocities. At least they could be racing "stock" cars again. :)

Sorry. Can't.

I can't even watch the truck series. I'm able to suspend disbelief... No they're not really pickup trucks, that would be stupid to race. They're serious racing machines... but then why did they fabricate them to look like trucks? That's stupid.

Well, with Toyota bailing on the .1RL for NAPCAR, Fonda can't be far behind. So who knows?

By having that POS and the DP the Frances got a lock on ugly, which only seems fitting. Looks like something a no talent kid drew with crayons...
