View Full Version : A word about articles
Just a friendly reminder. The rule here is to quote relevant bits of an article and provide a link to the source. Links are simple, just paste in the URL and the forum will linkify it.

It is because of copyright issues.

It's also kind of disrespectful to take someone's hard work and not send any traffic their way so they can earn money or get the deserved recognition for their work.

I know it's not a constant problem, but what about making a forum announcement/sticky saying do not cut and paste full articles and explaining what one should do in the body?

what ever:shakehead
It has nothing to do with Mark C specifically. It's about being respectful of the rights of other web sites and avoiding liability and hassle ourselves.
If an occaisonal polite reminder isn't good enough we'll start enforcing this policy by other means.

business must be bad for lawyers if internet forum owners are getting threatened.

Given that the copyright trolls are organized and out in force I was wondering if Off Camber has a registered DMCA agent. You should.

Good catch, Cameraman. I'm sending this out to a lot of folks I know. My industry's E&O charges $100 a year for this sort of protection. To get it for $105 total is a good deal.
A few years ago a rights company wrote to me. They subscribed to a sophisticated service that trolls the net for their images. I had a thumbnail on my website for which they said they owned reproduction and distribution rights. Attorneys wrote me pretty dire letters. It all ended with a whimper when we got to the point of their admitting the copyright owner was Canadian, which muddied the originating law, transfers, licensing waters sufficiently that they didn't pursue. It could have been hugely costly, however.
Thanks, good tip. We need to do that.
Hey, look what I found (http://www.offcamber.net/forums/faq.php?faq=welcome_faq_item#faq_support_faq_item) !
The Bosses don't ask for anything, but this is probably an unexpected expense.
Besides, I need some good karma.
Thanks as always, R. and M.!
