My bracket is toast too... so Gay Goters ! ! ! :D

We'll have to carve our way through the "big-city thugs" of Villanova and UConn though.

Villanova and UConn are the only two teams I have left to make it to the final four. If UConn goes down, I'm toast, since they were my winning team.

:gomer:

Worth repeating, indeed.

I was living and going to school (Rose-Hulman) in Terre Haute (home of Indiana State) in '79. Get in your wayback machine and recall... Larry Bird's ISU was the only undefeated team in Division I and the big story with the all the know-it-all talking heads was whether they deserved to be ranked #1. After all, they were in the lowly Missouri Valley Conference at the time. Packer was the main guy at CBS (?) at the time and one of the most vocal anti-ISU haters. He made no secret that he thought they didn't deserve to be ranked where they were. Still in the wayback machine, recall (if you were alive) that in 1979 cable TV was in its infancy, if it existed at all, and a college hoop game on TV was usually shown nation wide. ISU finally got a nationally televised game against Witicha State. The whole town was salivating at the prospect of razzing that rat when he came to town to do the game. Guess what? Packer didn't do the game. ISU won 108-88, and went on to remain undefeated until Michigan State and Magic Johnson beat them in the tournament final.

Man, that was a great winter to be living in one of the most dismal cities in the nation.

So, I'm sure we all had LSU v. UCLA and George Mason v. Florida in the Final Four, no? :gomer:

Billy Packer

I just lost >$100 (had UConn in a pool w/some buds).

EDIT: Congrats to the Masons.

EDIT 2: Significant to not have a single #1 seed in the final four. Gotta be a rare occurence.

EDIT 3:

This marks the first time since the field was expanded to 64 teams in 1985 that no top-seeded team advanced to the Final Four, and the second time in tournament history.

Jeebus!

Some fun facts on ESPN brackets:

http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?id=2385599

More than 1.5 million people participated and of the more than 3 million entries submitted only four -- that's right, four -- picked a Final Four including Florida, George Mason, LSU and UCLA before the tournament started. Over 66 percent of entries had none of the Final Four teams correct and better than 29 percent had exactly two teams correct.

As you probably guessed, George Mason is the team that busted the most brackets. The Patriots were picked in 1,853 entries to make the Final Four, with only 677 putting them in the championship game and only 284 predicting George Mason winning the national championship. UCLA, on the other hand, got the most support -- more than 24 percent of all entries have the Bruins advancing to Indianapolis.

I thought about starting another thread to make this point, but no need to clutter the board.

Just say this to yourself: George Mason is going to the Final Four.

I mean, does it even make sense when you say it?

Back in '99 I wondered WTF a Gonzaga was doing in the Final Four. Gotta love March Madness. Too bad the foosball schools aren't paying attention.

Gamecocks win the NIT vs. Big 10 - crushing Big East Louisville en route.

And the ESPN picks (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney06/news/story?id=2390021) look promising with everyone picking either LSU or UF to win it all.

I think one of the things that hurt George Mason was the long wait between games.

Had then been able to play a day or two after making the final 4, they could have rode the momentum. But waiting a week and allowing Florida to specifically prepare for them hurt.

Congrats to them though, huge accomplishment. Not good for tv ratings though.

more like GMU's luck finally caught up to them, they met a team playing lights out all tourney long and who had 2x the talent they did...

GMU capitalized on playing their A++ game over and over and over when others had their B- or C+ game, them playing A+ vs. Florida's A+ would've stlil resulted in a loss.

definately true. I'm not arguing that GMU was a better team. By far they are not.

But sometimes the lesser team can ride momentum if the other team doesnt have time to prepare for them properly and they just overlook them as an easy win.

I wish there were more games... the way they've played the last two tourneys (teamwork, extra pass, defense, hustle, etc.) I think they could take on the entire nation... 'xept South Carolina.

Still though, we are Gators... Bring on the Urban Warriors.

All I can say is that I'm glad I watched from before the Sweet Sixteen on up because the Final Four was a Final Fizzle. What dismal games. Defense, yeah, yeah. They were still a huge letdown after the fireworks of the games that led up to them.
